TDK ran a booth at the OFC, which was held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, for three days from Mar. 13, 2018 to Mar. 15, 2018. We would like to thank once again the many people who visited us.
TDK is applying the high precision manufacturing process expertise developed in HDD magnetic head to create advanced fiber array assemblies that are essential for the wide range of optical modules with Si-P devices.
Only TDK, with the experience of absolute quality control required in the mass production of electronic components, can deliver these high quality & high reliability optical products.

In respond to the potential increasing demands in market, we have newly developed ultra-miniature array type Tap-PD modules based an optical designing technology and assembling technology of TDK’s own optical fiber array, lens array, optical thin-film, and PD array. Two types of prototype are shown in the booth. The dimensions are 27 x 29 x 6.5 (W x L x D) mm3 (Type A), and 27 x 19 x 6.5 (W x L x D) mm3 (Type B). They are much smaller than conventional optical power monitors.
We have succeeded in both forming high quality LN (LiNbO3) crystalline thin-film that is grown epitaxially on a sapphire substrate by a sputtering method with very excellent characteristics equivalent to those of bulk crystal LN and fabricating an optical waveguide with very low loss characteristics.
LN components/devices have been widely used in various application fields by making use of its intrinsic material characteristics, such as optical modulators and optical switches and so on. The LN crystalline thin-film newly developed by TDK has a great potential not only to contribute to improve conventional devices in size and power consumption and so on but also to create new application fields where LN crystal has not been used for a long time.
TDK ran a booth at the FOE, which was held at Tokyo Big Sight, Tokyo, Japan, for three days from Apr. 4, 2018 to Apr. 6, 2018.
