FAQ
Q.
What kinds of risks are involved when currents exceed allowable ripple currents?
  • Kondensatoren
  • >
  • Keramik-Vielschichtkondensatoren (MLCC)

A. It means self-induced heating exceeds 20°C. Often when such use with a power circuit can be assumed in a case where such a large ripple current occurs. Normally, many components that generate more heat such as a power IC and transformer are peripherally placed. Therefore, there is the danger of the temperature of the MLCC coupled with self-heating exceeding the upper limit of the operating temperature. Continued use of an MLCC that has exceeded the upper limit of its operating temperature leads not only to lowered capacitance, but also to accelerated life deterioration, and in the worst case, short-circuit failure. Please be sure to use an MLCC within the allowable ripple current.
