Please explain the types of core materials for inductors for power circuits (Power Inductors) and the characteristic differences among them.
  • Inductors (Coils)

A. A metal magnetic material or ferrite is used for the core material of inductors for power circuits.(Power Inductors)
The metal magnetic material features small inductance changes by temperature and does not reach magnetic saturation as easily as ferrite, and the rated current Idc1 (current value based on inductance change) is significantly different from that of a ferrite core.
As a ferrite core exhibits higher resistance compared to a metal magnetic material, it has small eddy current loss and is used at relatively higher frequencies.
