[Application Note]
TDK offers a full suite of sensors that are perfectly suited for drones of all types from consumer/prosumer models to industrial units.

In just a few years, drones have become indispensable in one application after another, including such diverse areas as agriculture, real estate and cinematography. For all this success, drones still have almost unlimited potential given their suitability for a wide variety of uses including delivery, inspection, search & rescue, monitoring, and mapping, to name just a few.

Fundamental to drone utility is sensor technology. Drones rely on diverse sets of sensors for two broad purposes. First for their own functionality, notably flight and navigation, and second, for their ancillary capabilities – cameras for vision, motion detectors to sense activity, heat sensors to detect temperature, and so on.

TDK Corporation (TSE:6762) presents the new B58101A0109A* (HP100) series of heat pump sensors for measuring the refrigerant temperature indirectly via the pipes' surface temperature. The NTC-based sensors are specifically designed to meet automotive requirements. Standard for pipe diameters of 12.8 mm, this clip-on design can operate in harsh environments from -40 °C to +150 °C and is water immersion resistant for up to 500 hours. The response time is less than 7 s. The new AEC-Q200 qualified sensors offer a high dielectric strength of 1250 V AC for 10 s, an important criterion for use in EVs. A low temperature tolerance of ±0.3 K at a nominal temperature of 85 °C ensures high control accuracy.

[Product Overview]
TDK InvenSense’s barometric pressure sensors use an innovative capacitive MEMS architecture to deliver lower power consumption and lower noise than competing technologies. The SmartPressure products can measure height change below 5 cm, less than the height of a single stair step.
With its industry-leading measurement accuracy and ultra-low power operation for always-on applications, the SmartPressure product family is best suited for smart phones, tablets, wearables, drones, and many other devices to determine accurate location of E911 calls, track changes in elevation for activity monitoring, support indoor or 3D navigation, and other motion- or position-based services. Home appliances such as washing machines, vacuum cleaners, water and gas meters can use the pressure sensors to monitor air flow or water level.
The SmartPressure product family includes support for waterproofing to 10 ATM.
A Development Kit is available for each product family for easy evaluation.
