Q1  What is SEAT?

A1  SEAT stands for SElection Assistant of TDK components. This software contains functions for displaying and comparing characteristics of TDK components, and functions such as pulse response simulation and inductor's and capacitor's characteristics simulation for confirming the dynamic behavior of components.

Q2  What kinds of characteristics can be displayed?

A2  Various kinds of impedance and S-parameters can be displayed.
Impedance characteristics such as magnitude value, phase, admittance, inductance, capacitance, tanδ, and Q can be displayed.
S-parameters such as magnitude value, phase, group delay time, Smith chart, and VSWR can be displayed. Mixed mode S-parameters, which are essential for analyzing balanced components, can also be handled.
In addition, it is possible to display the DC Bias / Temperature characteristics, the temperature-resistance characteristics of NTC thermistors, and the voltage-current characteristics of chip varistors.

Q3  What kinds of simulations can be executed?

A3  SEAT is equipped with the following simple simulations.

  • Pulse Response Simulation (Single Lines and Differential Lines)
    --- This simulation can show the influence on waveforms when a component is used on a digital circuit.
  • TDR Simulation
    --- This simulation shows the characteristic impedance of components.
  • Temperature Rise Simulation
    --- This simulation shows the temperature rise characteristics of inductors and capacitors, which are mainly used for power circuits, for direct current and ripple current.
  • ESD Simulation
    --- This simulation shows the high-voltage suppression effect of chip varistors.
  • NTC Thermistor Simulation
    --- This simulation can show the output voltage when a NTC thermistor is installed on a circuit.

Q4  Is component information updated?

A4  This software is update every six months. Differential updates can be executed over the internet. From the Program Menu, select [SEAT Update] to update the program to the latest version.

Q5  What are the system requirements?

A5  SEAT software requires high specifications due to its characteristics.

SEAT is not compatible with Windows95, 98, ME, NT4.0, 2000.
Also, installation and execution must be done by someone with administrator authority.

Q6  Is there an instruction manual?

A6  Download a tutorial brochure.

Q7  I already have the old SEAT (2010) installed. What will happen if I install SEAT 2013?

A7  It is possible to install and execute SEAT 2010 and 2013 on the same computer. It is also possible to uninstall SEAT 2013 using [Add or Remove Programs].

Q8  Can I import S-parameters that I measured myself or S-parameters that are provided by another company to SEAT?

A8  No. There is no such function available.

Q9  What if my hard disk does not have enough space?

A9  SEAT component data uses actual measured data (impedance and S-parameters). Therefore SEAT requires a large amount of hard disk space.
You can select [Custom Installation] when installing the program and choose not to install unneeded items from the database to reduce the required hard disk space.
