TDK Developing Technologies - Introducing the latest electronic component technologies
Our developments start with materials so that we can produce original electronic components from scratch.
This is an introduction of three technologies developed as a result of the latest research by TDK. Please contact us if you are interested.

Magnetic sensors:
Capable of Detecting Extremely Weak Biomagnetic Signals at Room Temperature.
The World’s First Ambient Temperature Sensor to Visualize the Heart’s Magnetic Field Distribution.
TDK has developed compact and highly sensitive biomagnetic sensors through development of applications with MR (magnetoresistive) element technology utilizing spintronics technology that was cultivated through the manufacture of HDD (hard disc drive) heads. This has made it possible to sense weak biomagnetic fields which could only be measured by using a SQUID (Superconducting Quantum Interference Device) flux meter up to now. And, through collaborative research with the graduate school of the Tokyo Medical and Dental University, TDK has developed a biomagnetic measurement system using a multi-channel sensor array, and we are the first in the world to successfully carry out measurement and visualization (imaging) of the cardiac magnetic fields using MR sensors.

Wireless Power Transfer Technology:
Achieves Wireless Power Transfer to Mobile Objects with High Efficiency.
Can Also Be Used for Rotating Parts Such as a Robot Arm.
This article presents wireless power transfer technology using one of the magnetic resonance technologies which were newly developed by TDK for various industrial applications, including robots. TDK has put together three power platforms at 1kW, 200W, and 50W, which allow for flexible system construction to meet application requirements, such as power transfer to moving parts on automatic guided vehicles (AGV) and elevators, power transfer to rotating parts such as a robotic arms and surveillance cameras, etc. Wireless power transfer for industrial applications: eliminates the need for power cables, enables safe and secured automatic charging, improves the working environment, increases production efficiency, potentially reduces cost, and also allows power transfer in harsh environments which cannot be accessed by people.

Thin-film Capacitors:
Innovations for Decoupling Capacitors Embedded within the Circuit Board Substrate Below the LSI Chip.
TDK's TFCPs more effectively use the LSI package substrates themselves. These TFCPs help reduce the space typically required by the large number of decoupling MLCCs. Made of proprietary materials achieving a thickness of 50μm or less, TDK’s TFCPs are embedded in the package substrate just below the LSI chip to deliver excellent decoupling effects at high frequencies.

"Guide for Replacing Film Capacitors with MLCCs Vol.1-3" have been released

“Guide for Replacing Film Capacitors with MLCCs Vol.1-3” has been newly added to the solutions guide corner for solving your problems (registration with myTDK is required for viewing the contents).

Vol.1 Features of High voltage MLCCs with C0G Characteristics and Replacement Solutions
In recent years, there have been remarkable increases in withstand voltage and capacitance in MLCCs (multilayer ceramic chip capacitors) for temperature compensation (type 1). In particular, even in fields where film capacitors have traditionally been used, resonance circuits for example, replacement with MLCC is now possible.

Vol.2 Application to EV wireless power transfer systems
In addition to explaining the characteristics of C0G MLCCs with high withstand voltage, this section focuses on the advantages of replacing the film capacitors used in EV wireless power transfer systems.

Vol.3 Application to EV plug-in power charging systems
This section mainly explains the advantages of using MLCCs to replace film capacitors in the onboard chargers (OBC) of plug-in charging systems.
